Asus Gaming Laptop Model G751JY-DB72

Asus Gaming Laptop Model G751JY-DB72 is not one of the most beast system out there.  On the other hand, it out performs some of the more expensive models out there.  The PC world go figure pushing hardware that doesn't out perform earlier models.   This happens sometime, this is why I always watch for a major update.  Like, purchasing a 600 series video card and then waiting for the 700 series to come out nothing in between.

I constantly check specs because some of the 700 series models perform less than one for the 600 series models.  Learning how to read specs and what they mean is very important when dealing with laptops or desktop hardware.  Ok, enough digressing from what we are here for the details on the Asus G751JY-DB72 Gaming Laptop.

Specs I tested for this system:

  • Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPU (2.6GHz base, 3.6GHz Turbo)
  • 24GB of DDR3L RAM
  • 128GB SSD w/1TB HDD for additional storage
  • Nvidia GTX 980M (4GB of RAM)
  • 17.3-inch, 1920×1080 display (G-Sync enabled)

There are a few DB72's showing up for sale a two grand for the G-Sync models and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

Asus Gaming Laptop

This is somewhat still expensive, but there is an alternative.  Check this model out G751JY-WH71 it drops the price by 500 bucks.  The only thing is, imstead of a Blue Ray you get a DVD-ROM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD and only has 15GB of RAM.

Make sure you get the later versions of this laptop that has the Skylake G752 series. The older series G751s are using Haswell mobile. There is a small difference but the Skylake supports up to 64GB of RAM and 45WTDP.

Check out the GTX 980M with a SkyLake CPU. The 17-inch 1920x1080 display on this puppy is nice also. Some of them had a lot of ghosting issues but no this one.

Now, to the pricing?:

For the bang for your buck on this baby. For around $1,521 system that has GTX 980M and G-Sync panel it gets no better than this.
